Swanyee Development Foundation, Myanmar

The Swanyee Development Foundation, a member of the Swanyee Group, is one of the few registered local non-governmental organizations (NGO) in Myanmar. It was founded in June 2006 and officially registered under the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2011. The Swanyee Development Foundation works in the areas of emergency relief and disaster risk reduction, rural development and poverty reduction, environmental conservation, livelihoods and food security, and micro-finance.

Swanyee had gained a wealth of experience by implementing several programs including post-tsunami rehabilitation projects in Irrawaddy Division, covering the infrastructure and livelihood sectors. It also provided assistance after Cyclone Nargis and Cyclone Giri. Swanyee has worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Save the Children, Mercy Corps, Norwegian People’s Aid, Adventist Development and Relief Agency, Care International in Myanmar, Pyoe Pin, Thadar Consortium, MERN Consortium, CPWG Consortium, Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED), Danish Refugee Council (DRC), Plan Myanmar, Pact Myanmar, the German Embassy Yangon, Hand in Hand Consultancy Services Private Limited (HiHCSPL), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and International Organization for Migration.

Currently, Swanyee is implementing Child Centred Disaster Risk Reduction (CCDRR) and Community-based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) projects including: a Taungup, Kyauk Phyu and Gwa, Rakhine State project in partnership with Plan Myanmar and ACTED; “All Children Have Rights” in partnership with DRC in Taungup, Rakhine State; “Community Based Income Generation Activities,” micro finance activities focused on women’s empowerment in 10 villages in the Delta Region in partnership with Hand in Hand India, and in forest and farm facilities in five villages in the Delta region with FAO support; and a livelihood and food security project in 25 villages in Aunglan township in partnership with Pact Myanmar.
