The very first UCRSEA Writeshop was held on 28 April 2016 at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Vietnam. This Proposal “Writeshop” focused on building the capacity of graduate students in Southeast Asia to better design research proposals and research projects. It saw 23 graduate students and six resource persons from various universities across Vietnam and Canada come together and improve or develop their research proposals to address the growing problem of climate change for cities in Southeast Asia. It also saw potential future students connect with current UCRSEA researchers and graduate students. In particular, the writeshop focused on proposal writing skills such as problem framing, research methodologies, and strategies for funding and applications for future graduate work.

As Co-Director Amrita Daniere explained to the group in her welcome, it has been a goal of UCRSEA, as well as a personal goal of Dr. Daniere’s, to bring together students from Southeast Asia and Canada to work together to develop cutting-edge research on urban climate issues.
